Eee.

[livejournal.com profile] maddarilke makes my night by posting, among other things, thusly:

I have been re-reading TPDoEQ from the beginning. It is so dense that I've not even arrived to Bessie's first kidnapping, LOL. ;) I'm remembering some things about it that I'd forgotten, and discovering things I'm sure I hadn't noticed the first few (hundred) times. You know, I know you are a fabulous writer, and that your efforts unrelated to TPDoEQ are just as amazing, but it really is as phenomenal as your fangirls have been telling you, over the years. oxoxoxox

Thank you. :)

I'm sure there's a simple legal reason for this that I'm not thinking of but... why is it you can't publish this fan works again? With the exception of the movie and the comic, aren't most of the original book characters public domain by now?

The problem there, I think, is that Skinner is NOT public domain yet. And he's just a liiiiitle bit important to the plot, I think....XD

(which is a shame--I'd totally buy a print version of TPDoEQ. <3)

If I ever get around to finishing the print version, by which I mean printed off my computer and photocopied, I'll reserve one for you.

[livejournal.com profile] ladydragonryder is right, in part at least.

In a nutshell, the reason I can't publish it is because it's based on the movie, and the movie and its versions of the characters are all heavily copyrighted. This particularly applies to Skinner, who was created for the movie, but I'm pretty sure the movieverse versions of the otherwise public domain characters are also off-limits.

It does kinda make me sad, because I would dearly love to publish it. I'm starting to feel a little worried that it's the best thing I'll ever do.
