Author's Notes/Disclaimer: This is a play on Sarah’s nickname for Chris, which is Shep – short for German Shepherd. Nobody else is allowed to call him that. It’s set a little way in the future; Sarah’s begun realizing that her feelings for Chris are changing, but she’s not sure if that’s reciprocal and she’d just as soon keep quiet about it all, not least because it’s against LAPD regulations for partners to be involved. And yes, the screensaver described is just what I have on my own computer! The joke, for those who don’t know, is that all of the men mentioned are used as a basis for a character on the Brutality game; Joe Flanigan is Chris himself.

Ficletness, one of two requests.

Title: Auld Lang Syne
Characters: Tom Sawyer and Elizabeth Quatermain
RPG: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Quote/Word to use: "Surprise me..."
Genre: General, rated G. These two are close, so a friendship story was in order.
Summary: While the League spends Christmas at the Quatermain manor near London, it proves to be a time of relaxation, merriment, and the strengthening of bonds which sometimes weaken in the course of battle. On the afternoon of New Year's Eve, Elizabeth invites Tom to go for a horseback ride in the nearby woods, for a few hours of reminiscing and contemplation.
Notes: The story was requested by clez, who plays Tom on the board; she is also the owner of the game. Allan Quatermain is the creation of H. Rider Haggard; Huckleberry Finn is, like Tom, the creation of Mark Twain; and Peter Stowells is an original character played by sethoz's sister Lozzie. (Those three characters are mentioned by name.) Elizabeth is, of course, my own original creation, as are Solomon Manor, the horses Benedick and Hamlet, and pretty much anything else you see mentioned that you know wasn't brought up during the movie. All the information regarding New Year's Day traditions came from this website.

Last year, shortly before Christmas, I composed a story called "Comfort and Joy" which was about the League spending most of December at Elizabeth's manor, and this could be viewed as a story within that story.

Second...valerious013 and I are very excited, because our joint fic "Broken Boughs" just received its first review from a complete stranger. And it'a good review.

This deserves more reviews. It's one of the better stories I've managed to dig
up in the Fantasy section.

It is really lovely. The style's a little odd. The qoutes seem somewhat modern and the rest of the text less so. But it's still lovely.

I really liked how much you threshed out your world before you started in. People don't seem to do it very often.

All in all a wonderful story.
