For those of you who knew [livejournal.com profile] likesthesilence and would like to leave a condolence message for her family, her online obituary is here and the 'book of memories' section is here. Please feel free to share this with anyone you know who knew her.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me personally a message of condolence in the last few days. This is still unfathomable to me.

Title: Avengers and Alchemists

Author: Lady Norbert

Genre: Fantasy/Humor

Rating: PG-13

Word Count: 6,291 (not counting the author's note)

Pairing/Characters: Team Mustang, Fuhrer Grumman, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Thor, Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Phil Coulson, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Odin, Frigga, and of course Loki. Royai and Clintasha implied by the ending.

Warnings: This might not make a lot of sense?

Summary: Based on artwork by Sarlyne. Clint Barton pays a visit to his sister Riza Hawkeye in Amestris, in order to be on hand for Grumman's inauguration. But when Loki escapes Asgard, Amestris looks like the perfect place to hide, so the Avengers team up with Mustang's group in order to bring him to justice... again.

Author's Note: This is, quite obviously, an AU. For that reason, the details of Clint Barton's background will not be presented entirely accurately as they are known in the Marvel universe. I did review his history on Wikipedia before beginning this project, so there will be some details that are right and some that are not. I hope no one is too deeply troubled by the alterations. The ending might seem a little familiar to people who have read my other FMA works. It's possible that at some point in the future, I will continue this, but for now, please just enjoy the silliness. :)

Special thanks to my artist, [livejournal.com profile] sarlyne, for giving me such a fun piece to write about; to my friend [livejournal.com profile] tk31085, who helped me puzzle out a number of plot points over lunch; and to my wonderful and patient beta reader, [livejournal.com profile] bay115, for her many helpful suggestions. Credit for Grumman's first name goes to [livejournal.com profile] jellyjay; I stole it from her.

Oh, and Coulson lives. Because I say so.

Does anyone remember a couple of years back when I was writing Legend of Zelda fanfic? Probably not too many of you, but I digress. [livejournal.com profile] protect_vester had requested of me, at that time, a Ganon/Zelda story which focused on the elemental connections of the three characters. The result was my least-reviewed piece ever, "Burn."

Flash forward to yesterday, when a reader tracked me down to ask my permission to record a podcast of herself reading the fic. The post is finished and up on Tumblr, and I'm still dazed at the whole idea.

Listen to my fanfic (it's quite short) HERE!

The official synopsis:

One fateful night in a rustic inn, a teenaged boy named Tobiah inadvertently gets involved in a fight revolving around a mysterious hooded woman. She turns out to be the fabled Lady Gray, a figure of legend that the majority of people fear. He ends up joining Lady Gray and her companion, the surly warrior Sabastian, on their quest to defeat and capture twelve demons, known as shades, who have escaped into the world. Gradually, Tobiah begins to piece together the truth about the lady, whose history is as tragic as her fate.

The story, which is up to six chapters, is over here. I've also given it a Facebook page and a page on TV Tropes.

I decided not to part with my Zelda manga, because there are so few of them and we waited so long for them to be released in English. Mine. I keep. I've set aside the three volumes of FMA that [livejournal.com profile] siddyq requested, and here's what's left.

Drumroll please )

In light of all of the recent SOPA talk here, I thought this might be of interest

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

The Dragon, actually. I was a little surprised to realize that it's the Year of the Dragon again, and then I remembered that on my birthday later this year I will indeed be turning a multiple of twelve. We had a long talk about the Chinese zodiac one night in my family, and when my stepfather found out which one was mine, he laughed and said it was utterly unsurprising to him that mine is the only animal in the zodiac that doesn't actually exist.

(he thinks, anyway)

My default answer to this question has always been 'no,' but I'm going to amend that to 'probably not.' I've had non-elective surgery and it sucked, so the idea of having surgery that I don't require to continue breathing makes me a little twitchy.

That said, I've found myself occasionally wondering if it would be a good idea to have surgery to remove the scar from the non-elective surgery. It remains the single biggest body issue I have, thanks to merciless mocking from schoolmates at the town pool and in the locker room, and even over twenty years later it's kind of hideous. My husband is fine with it, but the idea of much of anyone else seeing it upsets me in the extreme. So if I'm ever in a financial situation where such a procedure is an actual possibility for me, I will consider it.

I decided this ages ago. It would either be Go Play in Traffic (something my parents used to tell me as a child, until I actually did get hit by a car) or Painkillers and Mountain Dew: A Life Lived Between Headaches.

If you're a reader of my blog (and I hope you are), I invite you to participate in this feedback survey I whipped up last night. It's only ten questions, won't take long, and leaves a surprising mint aftertaste*.

Newest article is up on AngryWeb. Comic book fans would be especially interested, but I think geeks of all sorts should check it out. A special needs Superman fan had part of his prized collection stolen and there's a call out to help him.

"thehawkseyes" did another picture from the Elemental Chess Trilogy - this time she drew Ed and Winry's wedding. (That's not a spoiler, they get married in the canon.) It's adorable and I want everyone to see just how adorable it is!

Edited to correct html oops.

So [livejournal.com profile] seta_suzume offered to do FMA arts for anyone who sent her one of those 'Help' virtual gifts. (I think it was Help the South.) So I sent her one, and she did a picture from the Elemental Chess trilogy. To quote a commercial that was on for a while, it's so cute it's stupid. XD
