...needs to read the latest arc of Something Positive.

Now, I'm a Christian. Took me a while, and I tried out a few other things on the way, but I ultimately realized where I need to be, spiritually. I am not ashamed of my faith -- but certain individuals, such as Fred Phelps, make it difficult for me to want to proclaim it.

Randy's strip Something Positive pokes fun at practically everyone, sort of like South Park only better, because I don't want to maim something after reading Something Positive. In the most recent arc, he mocks the new trend of "Christian haunted houses," some of which -- it's true -- have 9/11 rooms which proclaim that God permitted the atrocities in New York and Washington to happen because of gays and abortion. (I mean, it's true that those things exist, not that that's why that day happened.) He did issue a disclaimer at the conclusion of the storyline, apologizing to his Christian readers for the fact that so many non-Christians have grown so jaded that they no longer believe in "real" Christians:

Thirdly, to my Christian readers: I am sorry. I am sorry many of you do get stereotyped or find yourself having to defend your faith against those who've been jaded by the batshit insane. More than a couple of you (and one or two people who'd never read my comic before and only read enough of the archives to justify feelings of persecution without realizing I attack pretty much everything, but to you I don't apologize - to you I offer a hearty cock to suck upon - it's mint flavored!) felt this storyline was portraying Christians as the likes of Phelps. This was not my intent. However, I have some awful news for you.

The problem of being lumped with them won't go away until you become more vocal.

People assume most Christians are heavy-handed, pushy, intolerant bigots bent of dominating any other culture or idea and supplanting it with their own whims because, for the most part, the ones who speak up the most ARE heavy-handed, pushy, intolerant bigots bent on dominating any other culture or idea and supplanting it with their own whims. It sucks. It's horrible. And it's the what everyone of any faith, political idea, or lifestyle has to deal with. People always focus on the loud minority who ruins everything. And like any other group, the only way you can combat this is making your views and, in this case, your kindness and actual testimony louder than the hateful prattle of those hurting your beliefs.

The main character of Something Positive is Davan MacIntire, who is a sort of parody of Randy himself. The primary focus of this particular arc is Davan's father, Fred, an absolutely brilliant character who, in the past year, found out that he has Alzheimer's and lost his dear wife Faye (the strip's most genuinely Christian character) to a sudden heart attack. We shall not discuss that. Anyway, Fred's off to a haunted house.

He thinks. Just trust me....you need to read this, regardless of what you believe. It's funny and thoughtful all at once.

(The girl with the walker is Fred's daughter, Davan's sister Dahlia.)
