My default answer to this question has always been 'no,' but I'm going to amend that to 'probably not.' I've had non-elective surgery and it sucked, so the idea of having surgery that I don't require to continue breathing makes me a little twitchy.
That said, I've found myself occasionally wondering if it would be a good idea to have surgery to remove the scar from the non-elective surgery. It remains the single biggest body issue I have, thanks to merciless mocking from schoolmates at the town pool and in the locker room, and even over twenty years later it's kind of hideous. My husband is fine with it, but the idea of much of anyone else seeing it upsets me in the extreme. So if I'm ever in a financial situation where such a procedure is an actual possibility for me, I will consider it.
