a quick note about religion

I have a very wide variety of friends on my list, insofar as religious conviction is concerned.
Some are Christians, like myself. Some are Jewish, some are Buddhist, some are atheist, some are agnostic. I love them regardless of their beliefs, and while I'm happy to tell anybody about what following Jesus has done for my life, I'm not of the fire-and-brimstone school that says you're going to hell if you don't believe the same things I do. If God didn't want different ways of worship to exist, and didn't want me to have these different people in my life, then He would simply not permit it. But He does. He has His reasons for everything, and I'm not usually in the habit of questioning Him too closely.
Having said that...
Please, please, PLEASE, for the love of anything you regard as holy, don't put me in the same category as Fred Phelps! The man is about as far removed from Christian as you can get! We're not all like him -- practically NO ONE is like him! (Thank God.)
His purpose on this earth, I am convinced, is twofold. Purpose one: To serve as a horrible example. Purpose two: To unite everyone else against him, so that we're all on the same side. So PLEASE don't look at this man and think this is what all Christians are like.

Date: 2006-10-06 04:23 pm (UTC)Look, there are fanatics in all faiths. Look at Islam...I know plenty of Muslims, and NONE of them are either fanatical, nor do they believe in killing people in the name of Allah.
Don't worry. xoxox
