[livejournal.com profile] maddarilke makes my night by posting, among other things, thusly:

I have been re-reading TPDoEQ from the beginning. It is so dense that I've not even arrived to Bessie's first kidnapping, LOL. ;) I'm remembering some things about it that I'd forgotten, and discovering things I'm sure I hadn't noticed the first few (hundred) times. You know, I know you are a fabulous writer, and that your efforts unrelated to TPDoEQ are just as amazing, but it really is as phenomenal as your fangirls have been telling you, over the years. oxoxoxox

Thank you. :)

I'm sure there's a simple legal reason for this that I'm not thinking of but... why is it you can't publish this fan works again? With the exception of the movie and the comic, aren't most of the original book characters public domain by now?

I totally have to agree with her, this is a brilliant work (one I need to re-read) as are your other works!!

Laura, I'm happy that my comments pleased you. I meant them sincerely.

However, I had a feeling that you would then go on to think, and I quote, I'm starting to feel a little worried that it's the best thing I'll ever do.

TPDoEQ is meaningful to me, is dear to me, is extraordinary (no pun) writing, in small part because I was predisposed to love the characters. And you can see that your Sherlock Holmes fics have also garnered a similarly rabid fangirl following. But you are no one-trick pony, nor a one-hit-wonder. Your writing, even the casual writing on your blog, outshines most of the stuff that passes for popular fiction these days. I'd put you right up there with Neil Gaiman, for your ability to make people care about your characters, and your ability to give literature a filmic quality.

That runs the gamut of your work, not just TPDoEQ.
