The Amish tragedy

On account of my own personal trauma of the last two days, I haven't commented on this. But it is, naturally, close to my heart in its own way.

Being a Pennsylvania resident, and living none too far from Amish country, you may imagine that I have been shocked and horrified by the senseless tragedy which has befallen that community. pouringsand, who lives in Lancaster County, has posted the following information about making donations for the victims and their families, with permission to repost.

It has received zero media attention so far, but it is the best and simplest explanation of what the Amish are truly like... two funds have been set up by the Old Order Amish community to accept donations. One is the Nickel Mines Children's Fund. The other is the Roberts Family Fund, for the Children of the Roberts Family.

The Roberts Family is the family of the gunman.

I think that speaks volumes about what kind of people the Amish are.

Donations to both funds can be sent to Coatesville Savings Bank, 1082 Georgetown Road, Paradise PA 17562. Gift cards, teddy bears and other material, non-cash donations, gifts or condolences should be taken or mailed to Georgetown United Methodist Church, 1070 Georgetown Road, Paradise PA 17562... Amish Elders will pick up the items there and distribute them to the families.
