It is an old maxim of mine that I have complete employment security because there is no one else in the world stupid enough to take this job. Probably not an entirely accurate statement, but sometimes it gets me through the day. I'm not job hunting (at the present), but it occurred to me today that my resume would become rather hefty if I had to list all of the responsibilities my present position entails.
Prepare weekly bulletins with announcements and other inserts
Prepare special service bulletins
Prepare bulletins for weddings and funerals
Prepare special certificates for baptisms and weddings
Answer the phone
Check and answer email daily
Keep files organized and up to date
Prepare two annual reports
Take minutes at monthly council meetings
Take minutes at annual congregation meetings
Sort daily mail
Stamp all bills and deliver to appropriate council member
Arrange for people to serve as greeters at each service
Prepare monthly newsletter
Prepare council handbooks for incoming council members
Collect and deliver Labels for Education to nearby Lutheran school
Collect, total, and deliver receipts to Redner's supermarket
Call hospitals and keep prayer chain notified of sick church members
Prepare assignments for weekly lectors
Mail schedules to communion assistants and acolytes
Keep stock room organized and well supplied with paper, copier ink, etc.
Prepare annual liturgical calendar
Arrange advertising for all special church events (fundraisers, etc.)
Keep track of requests to rent social hall
Arrange for all maintenance of office equipment
Be able to perform most minor repairs to office equipment to save on service calls
Help food bank volunteer load his truck with monthly contributions
In the event of an emergency, assist day care personnel with care of children
Conduct genealogy research in church records for people who request it
Sell old slate tiles from the steeple as part of fundraising efforts
Keep track of memorial contributions
Process all floral and bulletin dedications
Mail follow-up greeting cards to church visitors
Assist with annual preparations for Vacation Bible School
Perform all informational mailings for Sunday School department
Take the office paper and cardboard to the recycling center
Monitor the ink and paper in the fax machine and try to reduce the number of junk faxes we receive
Additionally, with Bob the council president about to be gone for at least a month because he's having brain surgery (no joke), I'm suddenly also in charge of monitoring the supply levels in the soda machine, photocopying and filing timesheets, and putting up the Easter decorations.
