Holmes icons

Done, done, done! I've finished my Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett version) icons for
icons100. Comment if you like or wish to use, but please save them to your own Photobucket or hard drive or whatever.
Teasers:

I should explain something about my icon-making situation. I do not have PSP or any of those other fancy programs. What I have is something called Ulead PhotoImpact, which came with my scanner. I don't really know what it is, but it's not capable of doing some of the things that the other programs are. On the other hand, it IS capable of doing some pretty interesting things all its own. So my icons tend to be a little...distinct.
All screencaps are courtesy of the generous and wonderful
melwasul, with the exception of the "Embrace" icon; I got that screencap from
wens. Many thanks to you both. The other exception is the "Time" icon, which came from a screencap I found on the web; I'll gladly credit if anyone knows the source. Thanks also to
valerious013 for the pretty "Coming Soon" icon. Additional credit:
002. Taken from a Sherlock quote in The Hound of the Baskervilles.
003. Quote by Oprah Winfrey.
006. Words from Hamlet's soliloquy.
012. I can't remember which story, but Sherlock remarks that he is "lost without my Boswell," meaning Watson, his biographer.
016. Lyrics from Green Day's song of that name.
020. Paraphrase of Sherlock quote in "The Solitary Cyclist."
022. Quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
028. Y-M-C-A!
037. Quote from The Princess Bride.
039. "While I breathe, I hope."
040. "Knowledge is power."
045. Something Holmes says a lot.
048. According to The Sign of Four, Sherlock uses "a seven per cent solution" of cocaine when he is bored.
049. From Sherlock's 'rose soliloquy' in "The Naval Treaty."
054. Lyrics by Van Halen/David Lee Roth (not sure which).
058. Part of a Sherlock quote from "The Greek Interpreter."
064. I know it's one of his quotes, but I can't remember which story it's in.
069. One of Jeremy Brett's lines in the Granada film version of "The Empty House."
087. Parody of the Henry James novel Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
089. Quote by Theodore Roosevelt.
097. Sherlock quote from The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Date: 2005-08-03 05:10 pm (UTC)Which ones are you referencing specifically? Because maybe it's just me, but I don't have difficulty reading any of them. The only one where the words seem to obscure the image is the "My name is Sherlock Holmes" one, and that's more or less on purpose.

Date: 2005-08-04 08:41 am (UTC)I took number 61 because a friend of mine recently did a nice Holmesian layout for my LJ, and it is now renamed the Agony Column.
Can't wait to see the rest!

Date: 2005-08-07 01:19 am (UTC)Favourites: 2, 4, 8. 14, 15, 25 (simple but it works), 34, 45, 55 (very ... Warhol?), 57, 61, 67, 81, 90, 91, 97, 99.
Actually, 99 is I think your coolest effect -- I'd love to see you do more icons in that style, with other images as well.
Congratulations on the much artistic prettiness :)

I love the humour in these, 'I win at life' will have to be my new favourite phrase of all time. Having it on a Holmes pik is pure genius :)

Date: 2005-08-08 02:09 pm (UTC)I'm afraid I can't suggest where you might get PhotoImpact (it came with my scanner), but you could try a search for it. Good luck, and thanks for the compliments!
