Done, done, done! I've finished my Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett version) icons for [livejournal.com profile] icons100. Comment if you like or wish to use, but please save them to your own Photobucket or hard drive or whatever.

Teasers:

I should explain something about my icon-making situation. I do not have PSP or any of those other fancy programs. What I have is something called Ulead PhotoImpact, which came with my scanner. I don't really know what it is, but it's not capable of doing some of the things that the other programs are. On the other hand, it IS capable of doing some pretty interesting things all its own. So my icons tend to be a little...distinct.

All screencaps are courtesy of the generous and wonderful [livejournal.com profile] melwasul, with the exception of the "Embrace" icon; I got that screencap from [livejournal.com profile] wens. Many thanks to you both. The other exception is the "Time" icon, which came from a screencap I found on the web; I'll gladly credit if anyone knows the source. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] valerious013 for the pretty "Coming Soon" icon. Additional credit:

I like no. 35 and no. 61. No. 74 is clever. With a lot of your others, however, you might like to be careful about allowing your image to obscure your text and vice versa.

Which ones are you referencing specifically? Because maybe it's just me, but I don't have difficulty reading any of them. The only one where the words seem to obscure the image is the "My name is Sherlock Holmes" one, and that's more or less on purpose.

I love these! Makes me feel even more deprived that I haven't been able to see the series with Jeremy Brett.
I took number 61 because a friend of mine recently did a nice Holmesian layout for my LJ, and it is now renamed the Agony Column.

Can't wait to see the rest!

Went and checked out your Sherlockian layout -- very nice! Hope you get to see the Jeremy Brett series sometime, it's really quite excellent.

Oh so pretty and shiny. I think I'll have to keep a few of these on my hard drive -- for if I ever get the chance to love them.

Favourites: 2, 4, 8. 14, 15, 25 (simple but it works), 34, 45, 55 (very ... Warhol?), 57, 61, 67, 81, 90, 91, 97, 99.

Actually, 99 is I think your coolest effect -- I'd love to see you do more icons in that style, with other images as well.

Congratulations on the much artistic prettiness :)

:D 99 is an effect I've used before, but I experimented by cranking it up to its highest level. I never saw it the way I used it tonight; I really like it too, so you'll definitely be seeing it again in something!

Glad you enjoyed so many of them, and thanks for your comments -- both here and on MSN.

With reff to oo1. would you mind awfully telling me what program and effect you are using for that as I'm trying to get a vaguely similar thing on a project of mine and that's the closest thing I've seen.

devereux1885@yahoo.co.uk if you don't want to publish your method and providing you want to share it with me.

I love the humour in these, 'I win at life' will have to be my new favourite phrase of all time. Having it on a Holmes pik is pure genius :)

Well, as I state at the top, I use Ulead PhotoImpact. The first icon was made by using a filter on that program called "emboss."

I'm afraid I can't suggest where you might get PhotoImpact (it came with my scanner), but you could try a search for it. Good luck, and thanks for the compliments!
