Pastor is on vacation until the end of next week, so my workload is excessively light right now. After the last few months, I'm enjoying this.

Thanks to everyone who inquired after my back injury; I'm still experiencing pain, but it's better every day and I should be back to normal before much longer. Of course, normal for me isn't all that normal, but at least I'm used to it. ;)

And now for some fandom-related things.

1. I am now a full-fledged administrator at the Zeldapedia, as of yesterday. They decided to basically overhaul the administrative situation because we only really had one active admin, and I was one of six people who got promoted. I'm one of only two female admin, and the only active one of the two of us; I'm also the only active female user on the entire site. Girl gamers represent.

2. Speaking of girl gamers, Game Informer magazine has an excellent op-ed piece by the female host of some video game TV show called The Electric Playground. Considering how male-oriented the industry tends to be, I felt compelled to write to the magazine and thank them for this article. I'm not saying it's wrong that the industry is male-oriented, since the majority of gamers are male, but the article touched on a few points that had me nodding my head emphatically. Reminded me very strongly of the time Kevin and I went to a Halo 3 party and the host suggested maybe I'd like to work on some knitting while the boys played. When he found out I was actually there to play, I thought he was going to fall over. (Granted, I didn't do very well; I'd never played a game like Halo before and I kept getting sniped in the rounds where we all had guns. But I kicked ass when they handed me a sword!)

3. Guy Ritchie, also known as The Director Married to Madonna, has decided to make a Sherlock Holmes movie, according to Hollywood Reporter. Except it's not really going to be a Sherlock Holmes movie, it's going to be about a guy who happens to be named Sherlock Holmes and happens to do detective stuff. I say that because apparently, Ritchie intends to give the character an overhaul to make him "less stuffy." HELLO? And I can only imagine that Madonna will be playing Irene Adler or something. As I said when I first read the news this morning, I think part of my soul just died. Go here for details.

4. I'm psyched for the new episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent that will air this coming Sunday. This is noteworthy, as I don't normally get all that excited about television. The L&O franchise is one of the only things I ever follow with any real interest, to the point where I can catch part of a rerun and say, "Oh, this one," and then decide whether or not I want to watch it again. L&O:CI is unique in that I've actually purchased seasons of it on DVD, which I almost never do with any show; the only other shows I own on DVD are one season of Tru Calling and, of course, the entire series of Firefly (which was a gift from some of my kids). But anyway, I'm really anxious to see this episode. My beloved Bobby Goren has apparently gone off the deep end, to the point where Alexandra Eames actually pulls a gun on him, or at least the commercials make it appear so.

I'm still reeling from when Goren's brother told him to "take Eames to a motel and get it out of your system," thereby validating the suspicions of fangirls everywhere, so I'm interested to see how this plays out.

5. On the Halloween costume front, things are progressing slowly but surely. Last night the eBay spirits were smiling on me, as I found auctions for three different costume components. I won and paid for two of them already; the grand total spent on them, including the shipping, is $15. The third auction won't end for a few days yet, but I'm the only bidder and the total cost, unless there's an abrupt and unlikely bidding war, will be five bucks. Yes, I'm cheap.

Still working on assembling pirate costumes for Vacation Bible School. I really want a leather corset but I don't want to pay the asking price on the ones I've seen. (Anybody have one I could borrow?)

Uh....

Re: Sherlock Holmes, what I flashed on was the bit in which an interviewer asked William Faulkner about Hollywood ruining his books. He looked up at his bookshelf and said something like, "They don't look ruined to me."
