End of Summer Survey....Remember everything you did this summer!

Did you go to the beach?

No.

Did you have a summer romance?
Do video game characters count?

Did someone tell you they loved you?
Yes. It's one of my favorite parts of being married.

What is your favorite summer moment?
Hard to say, but the whole week of Kevin's birthday was rather excellent.

Did something awesome and cool happen this summer?
I thought Vacation Bible School was awesome and cool, but I'm sure most of you think I'm weird.

Did you read any books this summer?
I'm shocked and embarrassed to say it, but no.

Had any all nighters?
*grins at [livejournal.com profile] oldschoollozfan* At least one.

Had any sleepovers?
Uh...I spent two weeks at my mom's house?

Went to any pool parties?
No, but I don't really swim anyway.

Went boy/girl watching?
Only on YouTube. (Oh, David Hayter, how you own me.)

Make any new friends?
Yes.

Was this the summer before college for you?
*snorts* Nooo.

Did you watch Camp Rock on Disney Channel?
...WTF is Camp Rock?

Did you go anywhere besides the beach?
I went to the local zoo, Hawk Mountain, Dorney Park, and...work. Lots of work.

Did you see The Dark Knight?
No. But I saw Prince Caspian four times.

Did you kiss someone this summer?
Daily.

Any hearts broken?
Again, do video game characters count? I watched the death of one I really love, and I cried.

Do you wish you could change anything?
I would have liked to accomplish what I wanted to do in the guest room, but I got lazy.

Are you ready for the school year?
I suppose. It's not like it impacts my life very much.

Do you think this summer was better then last year's?
Not appreciably. It was okay. Last summer was okay.

What was your number one song this summer?
Caramelldansen. Shut up, I love it.

In one or two words describe this summer?
Given that the highlights of my summer revolved around video games, VBS, and youth group outings, "geektastic" probably sums it up pretty well.

Meme?!

Yeah, because I have so much time on my hands. *snerk* But there really isn't anything I can be doing just at the moment; I've made the dummy copy of the bulletin, updated the schedule for VBS, called the hospitals, and even gone over my lines for tonight. So I took an LJ break and saw this on [livejournal.com profile] morningstar4's journal.

My result is so incredibly accurate that it borders on the ridiculous. I am a NINE )

Phone will not stop ringing this morning. Yeesh. Turns out that last week, the senior citizen housing complex here in town was evacuated due to a broken water pipe. I hadn't heard about it, and only found out today when the daughter of our second-oldest church member called to let us know where her mother is staying. Craziness.

Which Classic Story Role Do You Play?

- You Are The Wayward Heart
"Feel Better."

You are best described as 'Emotional Support'. Anytime an emotional issue comes up or something stresses people out, you are there to help them feel better about it. Whether you are the prankster of the bunch, the funny one, the wild one, or just the shoulder to cry on - your traits favor what it takes to keep people going. You like large groups of people and have many friends. When something hits home for you, however, you have a hard time with it. You also have difficulty paying attention or focusing on one thing. Above all, though, if people are happy, you are happy.

Because I wanna be cool like [livejournal.com profile] alphaloria, I took a love test. The love test says I am a warm and fuzzy.

It looks like you're someone who's very down-to-earth when it comes to love. You tend to be pretty realistic about what makes a lifelong partnership work. You understand the value of forging a love based on friendship, respect and shared values. In fact, often your relationships develop out of friendships and your lover tends to be your best friend. Marriage and children are probably central to your life. As far as you're concerned, a true relationship is one that matures with time and work. Just make sure that you keep the spark of passion alive.

You feel most comfortable in a solid relationship based on trust. Love is your life-blood. It fills you with energy and makes the world seem even more beautiful. Right now you couldn't imagine a better place to be. You're positively glowing with happiness and feeling very secure. Just how you like it.

Home life is really important to you. It is the focus of all the love that you have to give. For you, love is about feeling relaxed and comfortable in your own space. Your choice of animal shows that you are a very loyal person. You like to look out for the one you love and have very strong protective instincts.

Love is cuddling up on the sofa with a glass of wine or lounging in bed with the Sunday papers. You like grand romantic gestures. Your hear tleaps whenever your lover does something special for you. You dream of growing old with the one you love. A strong friendship is the secret for a true lovematch. You're a gentle soul. Quiet comopanionship and understanding is really important for a long-lasting relationship. Once the spark of passion has died down, this is what will truly endure.

With the wind against your face, the sounds of the birds singing around you, you feel more alive than anything. Like Pocahontas, you feel most alive when you're in nature where you belong - man's beginnings were in nature, it just makes the most sense. As you find yourself in nature, remember that not everyone feels this way as well - try to ease them into your way of thinking, or just introducing them to your lifestyle! Having shared my embarrassing little bit of 'no, Laura doesn't hear very well,' I'm chilling. Went with my mom to help her take Molly (the World's Biggest Golden Retriever) to the vet, where her ear infection was treated. Had other things I planned to do today, but that ended up taking nearly four hours, and now I'm tired.

Vincent D'Onofrio became the father of a little boy on Valentine's Day -- his name is Luka. *prods Clez with a grin*

So for the lulz, I stoled a meme from [livejournal.com profile] morningstar4. High school memecal )
ladynorbert: (tomgaze)
I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] clez.

People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs and replace any question they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves. Tag 8 people. Those who are tagged cannot refuse. These 8 people must state who they were tagged by. You cannot tag the person who tagged you. Continue this game by sending this to 8 other people.

1. You have 50 dollars in your pocket; what do you do with it?
It'd probably depend on whether I needed anything at the moment. We'll say I'd take Kevin out to dinner.

2. What is your most guilty pleasure?
RP, I guess, although it's only a guilty pleasure when there's something else I should be doing.

3. If you could only have one, which one would you have: iPod/MP3 or computer?
Well, I don't have an iPod/MP3, so I'd stick with my computer.

4. Are you confused as to what lies ahead of you?
At times, yes.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Knowing me, I'll probably be exactly where I am right now. Hopefully I'll have a book or two more on the shelves than I currently do, though.

6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone else?
They go hand in hand.

7. What's your theory on dating?
....that it's good for people who aren't married but want to be?

8. Do you feel like you are respected for who you are and what you do?
Some people seem to have the greatest respect for me. Other people fail to even realize that I'm a human being.

9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy recently?
Yeah. Details have been spilled to those who are willing to listen.

10. What do you want most in life?
For the people who love me to be near me, and for the people who don't to leave me the hell alone.

11. If you could pick between being a good singer or a good dancer, which would you choose?
Singer, I think. Though it would be a lot of fun to be able to dance well.

12. If you find out that your best friend is going out with your boyfriend/girlfriend, how would you react?
I don't like this question, but I can't think of anything to replace it. Mostly I think I'd be confused, because my best friend and I are both married and don't even live in the same hemisphere, so I'd be at a loss to understand how this happened.

13. If you could change anything about your appearance, what would it be?
I'd correct my vision so I would never need glasses or contacts again.

14. What kind of person do you think you are?
Most of the time, at least, I like to think I'm a really good person. I have plenty of faults, but I'm trying.

15. Do you believe in something higher than humankind?
Of course -- who do you think signs my paychecks?

16. Which fictional character could you most see yourself marrying?
LOL. Well, setting aside the fact that I'm already married, let's see here. Tom Sawyer from LXG? Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility? Part of me wants to say Sherlock Holmes, but I don't have Charlotte's patience -- he'd drive me bananas.

Of course, I already did marry a fictional character, according to the running kid gag. Kevin and I are the real-life Molly and Arthur Weasley.

17. Would you give your whole heart in a relationship?
I do.

18. Do you have a motto? If yes which one?
"It's kind of fun to do the impossible." (Walt Disney)

19. What type of friends do you like?
Mine. Silly streaks wider than a mile, willing to put up with eccentricity, smart, creative, loyal, protective, and generous.

20. Do you have an all-time favourite song?
It's hard to say that I have a favorite of all time. But probably my oldest and most enduring favorite is "Rainbow Connection," sung by Kermit the Frog in The Muppet Movie. It's one of five songs that I would want played at my funeral. (Working in a church office, you actually get to thinking about things like that.)

Tagging people that Clez didn't tag: [livejournal.com profile] shining_phoenix, [livejournal.com profile] blcksunaphelion, [livejournal.com profile] naiadea, [livejournal.com profile] rafferty, [livejournal.com profile] twilightsocks, [livejournal.com profile] sophy, [livejournal.com profile] alphaloria, [livejournal.com profile] kytyn

And because I'm still not up to thinking. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] naiadea. This should convince my kids that I'm old... )

Thank you for all of your kind words about Aunt Dorothy. Pastor, at my request, went in to visit her last night and gave her last rites "just in case," and my mom just called to say that she and Ravi and Aunt Bonnie are on their way to the hospital now to see her.
ladynorbert: (musewrangler)
Will work on those muse things, but council president is floating around so I don't dare work on it here. Besides, too much to do for the newsletter still.

Apparently, the day care now looks after banshee children, to judge by the ridiculous amount of screaming I'm hearing. And this is with all office doors closed.

I posted a question in one of my InsaneJournal-based RPGs, but if anyone here knows the answer, please feel free to let me know. Is there a way to adjust IJ settings so that the text isn't so freaking small and hard for me to read? I have the browser configured to show things at larger font sizes, but for some reason, IJ is exempt from this. My friends pages are fine, it's reading what's under a cut-tag that's hard.

To conclude, another meme, nicked from sunny godchild:

Reply to this post, and I will list three things I love about you. Maybe more than three. Then repost to your own journal and spread the love.
ladynorbert: (Default)
Or at least, everybody seems to want me to answer the memes, judging by how many times I've been tagged lately. So these are the two for which I've been tagged a lot.

List eight random facts about yourself.

1. Does the fact that I have a cat named Random count as a random fact, or is that cheating? Either way, it's true.

2. I have excessively distinctive hands, almost to the point where I wonder if they're deformed. I'm a nail-biter, which I know has something to do with why my nails are so oddly shaped, but the hands themselves even without the nails are weird. They're plump hands, but at the same time, they're really small.

3. I am extremely claustrophobic, to the point where just the idea of being in a small space gives me the shakes if I think about it too much. I read a Reader's Digest article once about two boys who were trapped in a cave, and I thought I might hyperventilate.

4. I'm very finicky about food textures. Depending on my mood, health, and even just the time of day, I will not eat something if I think it's going to feel "funny" in my mouth. This applies most often to breads.

5. If I have a headache, the idea of eating ham makes me sick. I don't know why.

6. I can't stand to eat breakfast within the first half hour of my waking up. My body does not want it. Given that this is usually the only chance I have to eat any breakfast, the result is a little unfortunate.

7. I get very annoyed by the commercials for the ABC Family network's original shows Kyle XY and Wildfire. They just try too hard to make it sound like what's happening in the next episode is going to have relevance to the viewer's life; I half want to write to them and say "You can't force me to care about these stupid shows!" Wildfire especially irritates me. They do that with their original movies too, to the point where I just want the movie to be over so I can stop hearing about it. (Although I didn't mind when they were advertising the one that had Stuart Townsend in it...)

8. When I brush my teeth, I wet the bristles and apply toothpaste, but then wet the toothpaste. I have an extremely dry mouth, and to use "dry" toothpaste -- even if it's a gel -- is uncomfortable.

List ten things that make you happy.

1. Chilling on the wonderful new sofa for a movie afternoon. If I didn't have so much housework to do, I'd schedule a marathon tomorrow. Maybe I'll have one Sunday after church.

2. Doing things with the youth group. I love those kids, especially Jesse, Libby, and Katie.

3. Winning at video games. I'm an old-school gamer geek; I still have a functioning NES and will occasionally play Zelda or Mario -- the originals, that is! Last year I sat down and played Zelda for the first time in at least ten years, and it took me all of three hours to beat it. I remembered where almost everything was...it was sort of scary. ;)

4. Pulling off something clever here at work, like yesterday's little adventure with soap.

5. Going to bed at night with the feeling that I did something in the course of the day to make someone else's life a little better. I don't have that experience every night, but when I do, it's very gratifying.

6. Getting a paycheck for one of my magazine articles. I love to write, but those things really do make me work for the money, so to see the fiscal result is nice.

7. New reviews for my fanfic.

8. Surprises in the mail. We had some yesterday, which are worth telling about; I came home and found, sitting inside the house, a large package covered in heart and Cupid stickers. It was addressed to Kevin. I asked him who was sending him such things; the return address was blocked by other mail. He just smiled and told me to take a closer look. Underneath his package was a similar one of my own, both from the same person -- [livejournal.com profile] blcksunaphelion sent us each a box of candy for Valentine's Day. Good thing too; if anybody other than one of the kids had sent Kevin something covered in hearts, I really would not have been very happy. ;) I wasn't worried, because he left it sitting right there where I could see it, but it did give me a genuine WTF? moment at first.

9. Feeling well enough to climb a mountain, and actually going to do exactly that.

10. It's egotistical, but it honestly does make me happy -- seeing either myself or something of my creation mentioned positively in someone else's LJ.

I tag anyone who has not yet done these and would like to do them. If you've done one, I tag you to do the other.
ladynorbert: (Default)
1. What is your occupation? Gal Friday and freelance journalist, with a smattering of author thrown in.

2. What color are your socks right now? White. Actually, except for some dress socks and my two pairs of wool hiking socks, all my socks are white. And they all live in the communal sock basket, because it so happens Kevin and I wear the same size.

3. What are you listening to right now? Right now, nothing. "When We Dance" by Sting just ended on my playlist.

4. What was the last thing that you ate? Fish sticks and tater tots

5. Can you drive a stick shift? Nope.

6. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? I like this question, even if I'm not sure how to answer it. Probably some shade of green.

7. Last person you spoke to on the phone? On the work phone, that'd be someone calling to solicit a donation for the local police department. On my cell phone, [livejournal.com profile] destinedtofly.

8. Do you like the person who sent this to you? Surely.

9. How old are you today? 31 years and 5 months, exactly.

10. Favorite drink? Well, the thing I drink most is probably Coke.

13. Pets? Two cats, a few semi-tame squirrels, and a Kevin.

14. Favorite food? Ice cream.

15. Last movie you watched? The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

16. Favorite day of the year? I don't know...it's sort of hard to pick. Maybe St. Patrick's Day, since it's my anniversary and all.

17. What do you do to vent anger? It depends on where I am and how sensible I'm managing to be in spite of the anger, because I've done some really stupid things. Ideally, I go up the mountain. For some reason, problems are easier to face at North Lookout.

18. What was your favorite toy as a child? I had -- and still have, up in the attic -- a ratty stuffed dog named Lonely. He went everywhere with me, including college, and I slept with him every night until I moved in with Kevin and had something bigger to snuggle.

19. What is your favorite season? Autumn

20. Hugs or kisses? Kisses, I prefer solid milk chocolate...oh, you don't mean Hershey. Kisses if they're from Kevin, hugs from anyone else.

21. Cherry or blueberry? Blueberry

22. Do you want your friends to email you? If they have nothing better to do?

23. Who is most likely to respond? Vee shall vait and see.

26. When was the last time you cried? Last month sometime.

27. What is on the floor of your closet? Dust bunnies.

28. Who is the friend you have had the longest that you are sending this to? [livejournal.com profile] mrskummer -- 24 years now!

29. Who is the friend you have had the shortest that you are sending this to? I think it's [livejournal.com profile] isaviel, but I'm not positive.

30. Favorite smells? Kevin's cooking, autumn leaves. I love the smells of hyacinths and Old Spice, too, but they make me cry.

31. Who inspires you? Everyone I meet, in some way.

32. What are you afraid of? My boggart.

33. Plain, cheese or spicy hamburgers? Cheese!

34. Favorite car? Whatever runs and is paid for. I love my Tom Sawyer.

35. Favorite cat breed? Uh...domesticated?

36. Number of keys on your key ring? Well, I have two rings. On my personal key ring, there are two house keys, my car key, Kevin's car key, my mom's house key, and the key to the shed. On my work key ring are the two outside door keys, the council room key, Pastor's office key, the keys to three filing cabinets, and the key to my desk. All combined, that's 14 keys.

37. How many years at your current job? Almost three.

38. Favorite day of the week? Saturday

39. How many states have you lived in? Just the one (Pennsylvania), unless you count the perpetual state of confusion.

40. Do you think you're funny? Looking, maybe. No, I'm turning out to be a pretty good comedy writer.

41. What did you do last night? Went out to dinner and was abandoned in Lowe's.

42. The last thing you downloaded onto your computer? No idea.

45. What are you wearing? Beige corduroy pants and a brown sweater.

46. How many cars have you owned? By myself, three -- a 1977 Ford Granada, a white Pontiac, and my current Tom Sawyer (a red 1994 Volvo). I also half-own Kevin's car Haldir, a 1996 Chevy Malibu.

47. Type of music you dislike most? Rap.

48. Are you registered to vote? Yup.

77. Do you believe in love at first sight? Yes.

78. Spongebob or Jimmy Neutron? I'm not a big fan of either, but at least Jimmy has some educational value. I really can't stand Spongebob at all.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me.
